CAM Director Transition

After a highly productive 5-year tenure, Alex Vladimirsky, Professor of Mathematics, stepped down as Director of the Center for Applied Mathematics (CAM) on June 30, 2020. Among his many accomplishments are the establishment of the postdoc and Shaghai Jiao Tong University internship programs, the hiring of a permanent staff member dedicated to the administration of CAM, and the expansion of the field faculty membership. Despite these remarkable contributions, in his words, "The interactions with students have been perhaps the most fulfilling part of the job."

David Bindel, Associate Professor of Computer Science, has been appointed the new Director. He begins on July 1, 2020, and his term will run through June 30, 2025. He steps in having already advised six CAM students, and he's currently a special committee member for an additional seven. Part of the role of CAM is to spark interdisciplinary collaborations, and his initial focus will be to continue to seek those opportunities.
