Components for Scientific Computing

Scientific Computing via Components

Mike Singer , Lori Freitag , Lois McInnes

This work is an on-going collaborative effort of Mike Singer (Cornell University), Lori Freitag (Argonne National Laboratory), and Lois McInnes (Argonne National Laboratory).

Summary of Project:

A component-based approach to scientific computing has many attractive features. Some of these features, including dynamic discovery and component interfaces which facilitate interoperability, are currently being investigated for use in a scientific computing environment. In particular, our work has focused on the development and implementation of mesh and discretization components which are written to a minimal interface specification.

Our poster will highlight specific issues related to the development of components for high performance computing. Such factors as atomic versus collective operations and the incorporation of parallel components which use MPI will be touched upon.
