Permission to take a make-up prelim must be obtained from your section instructor at least one day before the prelim. In no case may a student retake an exam.
Grading: Grades will be based upon exam scores, homework scores and class participation. Each prelim will count for 100 points. The final will count 150 points. Homework and class participation will count 150 points. There may be quizzes at random times that count towards your homework/class participation grades.

Exercises: Homework is to be handed in at the first discussion section each week for the material covered the preceding week.  All homework exercises are from the text. The problems listed on the timetable in the column ``HW'' are to be handed in. The problems listed in the final column ``Section'' are suggested problems to discuss in section meetings. Come prepared to discuss them. The exams may cover any material  that is in the sections of the text covered in the course.

Class participation: Attend class! Your participation in class will count towards your grade. It helps to read each section of material before it is covered in class, so that you have an idea of what the topic is about and can ask questions as the material is presented.
