Williamson, Shmoys honored at INFORMS meeting

David Shmoys (top) and David Williamson received the prestigious Lanchester Prize at the 2013 INFORMS Annual Meeting.

CAM field members David Williamson and David Shmoys won the 2013 Frederick W. Lanchester Prize for their book "The Design of Approximation Algorithms" at the INFORMS Annual Meeting held Oct. 6-9 in Minneapolis. The prize honors "the best contribution to operations research and the management sciences published in English in the past three years".

Shmoys was also elected as one of the 12 new INFORMS Fellows for 2013, "for his landmark achievements in the design of approximation algorithms for discrete and stochastic optimization problems, and for his exemplary contributions to education".
