Strogatz, Montovan earn Math Teaching Awards

Katie Montovan receives the Department of Mathematics Graduate Student Teaching Award

CAM field member Steve Strogatz (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) and Ph.D. student Katie Montovan have earned Department of Mathematics Teaching Awards for 2012.

Strogatz, the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor of Mathematics and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering,  received the Senior Faculty Teaching Award. The Department of Mathematics established the Senior Faculty Teaching Award in recognition of the importance of the place of all faculty members in the teaching and learning of mathematics.

Montovan was named the Graduate Student Teaching Award. The Department of Mathematics established the Graduate Teaching Assistant Award in recognition of the importance of TAs in the teaching and learning of mathematics. The selection may be based on one or more of the following criteria: the TA’s ability to develop students’ appreciation and understanding of mathematics, creative use or development of materials, success in helping students master material, and improvement of teaching skills over time.
