Title: Edge Detection and Hierarchical Decompositions

Abstract: I will discuss two prototype algorithms which are dominated by the presence of different scales. The first deals with processing discontinuous data from its
spectral content. The data consists of different regions of smoothness. The edges, the interfaces of such regions, are detected from spectral information using separation of scales. The second algorithm deals with image processing. The starting point are minimizers which detect the edges in a given image. But what about other parts the image, e.g., texture? I will present a novel decomposition of texture as hierarchy of scales of edges.
