Speaker: Stephen H. Davis, Northwestern University

Title: The Solidification of Metallic Foams

Abstract: The production of porous metals by the freezing of liquid foams promises to deliver a continous process of engineered porosity. The lecture will focus on the dynamics of liquid foams, the thinning of thin films and the rupture instability of the films by Van Der Waals forces and the subsequent solidification of the material.

Refreshments at 4:30 in 657 Rhodes Hall.
