Title: Canards

Abstract:

Canards are trajectories of multiple time scale dynamical systems that lie on slow unstable manifolds. They appear in attractors of these systems, especially near bifurcations. This lecture will describe the concept of slow-fast dissections of trajectories and how canards arise from degeneracies of this decomposition. The difficulty of computing canards will be discussed as well as strategies for surmounting these difficulties. Finally, the lecture will illustrate situations in which canards lead to chaotic dynamics.
