CANCELED - TO BE RESCHEDULED IN SPRING 07

CAM colloquium - Friday, October 20
3:30 p.m.
655 Rhodes Hall

Speaker: Alan Oppenheim, MIT

Title: One Plus One Could Equal Three

Abstract: There are many styles of doing research and of choosing research problems. In my group at MIT we have come to refer to our style as "One Plus One Could Equal Three". In this talk I will hopefully explain what I mean (even if you may not be convinced that it's a good style) and what types of topics it has led us to. In the process, I'll describe some of our current and recent research that developed out of a little bit of chaos theory, quantum mechanics, new
sampling ideas and biology, not necessarily all mixed together.

Refreshments at 4:30 in 657 Rhodes Hall.
