Our missionThe mission of the Center for Applied Mathematics (CAM) is to promote research and advanced study in applied and computational mathematics. CAM administers the graduate field in Applied Mathematics. It also provides support for visiting faculty members and sponsors workshops, seminars and conferences. Graduate studies in the Field of Applied Mathematics are the responsibility of a faculty drawn from a wide range of disciplines, including biometry, chemical engineering, chemistry, civil engineering, computer science, economics, electrical engineering, management, mathematics, mechanical and aerospace engineering, operations research, physics, and theoretical and applied mechanics. The Center's faculty members work in the following principal areas of research: analysis, applied logic and theory of computing, computational mathematics (computer algebra, numerical analysis, and optimization), discrete and combinatorial mathematics, information and control theory, mathematical biology, mathematical economics, mathematical and computational finance, mechanics and dynamics (continuum mechanics, dynamical systems, fluid dynamics, and statistical mechanics), probability (including mathematical finance), scientific computing, and statistics. |
