Frequently Asked Questions

Prospective students often ask questions about:

  • Financial Support
  • Chances of Admission
  • Tests
  • GRE Reporting Codes
  • Visiting CAM
  • Student life in CAM

    1. Will I receive financial support?
We normally only admit students for whom financial support can be provided. The support can come from external sources or Cornell sources.
    2. What are my chances of being admitted?
We receive between 125 and 150 applications per year. Our Admissions Committee reviews each application carefully and considers all aspects of the application. We usually admit about 15% of our applicants.
    3. My test scores will not be available until after the January 15 deadline. What should I do?
We will accept test scores after the deadline. If possible, you should send copies of the scores as soon as they are available to appliedmath@cornell.edu.
    4. What are the GRE reporting codes for Cornell University, Applied Mathematics?
Graduate School code number: 2098. Applied Mathematics code number: 0702.
    5. Can I visit CAM?
If we are able to offer you admission, we will also be happy to arrange for you to visit and meet faculty and students in CAM.
    6. What is the CAM student area like?
CAM graduate students have office and computer facilities in Rhodes Hall, Room 657. Each student has his or her own desk usually in a cubicle containing 4-5 desks. There are approximately 20-25 new Dell PCs running UNIX and a few Macs which are in a common area for use by students. There is also a small library and an area with couches and tables where the CAM students have coffee, lunch, talk, study, play games, etc.
